Step 2: Mark the boundaries

Next, you’ll want to measure and mark the pickleball court boundaries on the tennis court.

A standard pickleball court measures 20 feet wide by 44 feet long, while a tennis court is 36 feet wide by 78 feet long. With the extra space, you can even set up two pickleball courts side by side!

To mark the boundaries, use your brightly colored tape to create lines on the tennis court, making sure to leave space for the non-volley zone (also known as the kitchen), which is a 7-foot section on both sides of the net.

This is the area where players cannot hit the ball if it hasn’t bounced first.

Step 3: Lower the net

The height of a pickleball net is 36 inches on the sidelines and 34 inches in the center. Tennis nets are usually around 42 inches high, so you’ll need to lower them to the appropriate height. You can use some string or cord to secure the net to the desired height, or you can invest in a portable pickleball net system that can be easily set up on the tennis court.

While pickleball shares similarities with tennis, there are some key differences in the rules.
